Why Galata?
We understand the importance of location and that’s why all our apartments* are in the fascinating historic neighbourhood of Galata Istanbul.
*except Pera Place Apartment
With its genuine, very welcoming and diverse community, Istanbul’s Galata is a district where you’ll feel at home, yet also be in the historic and cultural heart of things. Elegant 19th Century buildings line cobbled streets alongside Ottoman fountains and ancient city walls. Discoveries are around every corner, together with an intriguing and practical mix of cafés, restaurants, small grocery shops and artistic boutiques.
A map is of course useful, but wherever you wander, you can always find your way back to Galata Tower, seen from far across the city and a much loved landmark – that everyone knows – for the last 700 years.
How long will it take to get around the city from Istanbul Place Apartments?
Galata is extremely well-connected and a choice of Metro, bus, tram and ferry stops are all only a couple of minutes walk away. You can be in Sultanahmet for the big sights of Ayasofya, Topkapı, the Blue Mosque etc. in about 12 minutes by public transport or 25 minutes on foot. In the other direction, by Metro, you can be in Şişli for Istanbul’s biggest shopping mall in 10 minutes or Levent for Istanbul’s business district in 15 minutes.
– Galata Tower
Galata Tower is a much-loved medieval landmark with a museum inside and fantastic view from the top. Istanbul Place Apartments are all* between 3 and 90 meters from the tower, which proves itself very useful when getting your bearings!
– Sultanahmet
This is the district, sometimes termed ‘the old city’, where you’ll find the big historic sights of Ayasofya, Topkapı Palace, the Basilica Cistern and the Blue Mosque. It lies just across Galata Bridge and the Golden Horn. You can walk to Sultanahmet in around 20-25 minutes or take the modern tram 3 or 4 stops: it’s 5 or 10 minutes’ walk then 7 minutes’ tram ride. If you’re tired on your way back, then the single stop of the historic Tünel underground train back up the hill is a useful option too.
– Taksim Square
Taksim and its ‘square’ area is often considered the centre of the city. Istanbul Place Apartments are all geographically linked to Taksim by lengthy Istiklal Avenue – a 2km pedestrianised shopping street with nostalgic trams running it’s entire length. This area is the culture and entertainment hub of Istanbul and Türkiye.
– Istanbul Modern
This is the largest contemporary art gallery in Istanbul and Türkiye. It’s recently moved into its new home – specially designed for it by internationally acclaimed architect Renzo Piano – in Galataport. The distance between Istanbul Place Apartments and Istanbul Modern is around 1km, down a steep hill, taking about 15 minutes to to walk. You’ll also find designer shops and smart restaurants and cafés in Galataport.
